James Courson sentenced Friday in Adams County court

A Quincy man, who's pleaded Guilty to a meth dealing charge as part of a settlement with prosecutors, has been sentenced to prison.

James Courson was in Adams County Circuit Court Friday, where he was sentenced to 8 years in prison by Judge Scott Larson. He will get credit for 391 days served in the Adams County Jail. Courson pleaded Guilty in November to one count of Meth Delivery of 5 to 15 grams. That plea was part of a settlement with prosecutors, who dropped a more serious charge of Meth Delivery over 400 grams. A co-defendant, Emir Jasso-Diaz, has already been sentenced to 15 years in prison. The pair were first stopped in November 2017 by Adams County Sheriff's deputies after they saw a vehicle driven by Jasso-Diaz traveling southbound in the northbound lane at I-172, just south of Highway 24.

During the stop, deputies found over 400 grams of suspected meth inside the vehicle.
