Jonathan Hoats admitted sexually assaulting a child in 2016

A Quincy man, facing child sexual abuse and pornography charges, has pleaded Guilty to one of the counts and been handed a long prison sentence.

Jonathan Hoats was in Adams County Circuit Court Tuesday, where he entered a Guilty plea to one Class X count of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a victim under 13. As part of a settlment with prosecutors, two additional Sexual Assault counts and one count of Child Pornography were dropped. Hoats admitted molesting the child in July 2016. Prosecutors had said that the abuse had continued through last August. After the plea, Hoats was then sentenced to the maximum 30 years in prison. Prosecutors had said that in 2018, Hoats shared a residence in the 900 block of Joshua Street with Martin Wiskur, who was arrested last November on similar child porn charges. Prosecutors say that after Wiskur's arrest, the QPD continued to investigate if any other children may have been victims. They say that a child under 13 was identified, who alleged abuse by Hoats.

Had he been convicted on all four counts, Hoats could have faced up to 120 years in prison.
