Porter Peoples to go on trial starting November 5

A Quincy man, one of five people charged with being part of a multi-state ring that brought in nearly 85 pounds of cannabis to Quincy, has pleaded Not Guilty and will go on trial this fall.

Porter Peoples entered that plea Wednesday at his arraignment in Adams County Circuit Court. He's set to go on trial starting November 5th. Two other co-defendants, Deamontae Hill and Maqualla Gholston, were also in court Wednesday, and will enter pleas next month. They and a fourth defendant, Rashad Snoddy, were all indicted last Thursday by an Adams County Grand Jury. All four are charged with one count each of Cannabis Trafficking over 5000 grams. According to prosecutors, the West Central Illinois Task Force and Quincy Police had the five under surveillance as they allegedly obtained the cannabis and brought it across state lines. A fifth defendant, Ebony Werner, has already pleaded Not Guilty and will also go on trial in November.

All five are in the Adams County Jail. Peoples is being held on $300,000 bond, while Hill's being held on $250,000 and Gholston's being held on $150,000 bond.
