Talks on new deal start in April
Some 800 members of the Quincy Federation Union have overwhelmingly approved a one-year contract that will keep the Quincy Public Schools open through the end of the school year.
The Union announced the results of the vote Thursday night after gathering to count the results from two days of voting by union members. The contract is said to include a step, or one year of service time for members, and up to a two per cent raise if the District ends its year on June 30th with a surplus. Under union rules, each sub-group had to vote to approve the contract.
In a statement, QPS Board President Sayeed Ali thanked the union members, saying quote, "It was our employees’ dedication to our students and community that helped the District avert a strike. I am extremely impressed with the union’s proposal and their willingness to work with us." Ali also asked people to thank District employees, saying "I hope we can all show them the respect and appreciation they deserve.”
New talks on a multi-year deal will start in April. Ali's full statement is available below.
