McDonough County farmer found jacket in his field, called Sheriff's Office

A body, possibly of a Bushnell man who went missing in July, has been recovered in a corn field in west central Illinois.

McDonough County Sheriff Rick VanBrooker says a farmer contacted the McDonough County Sheriff’s Office Friday afternoon after discovering a blue jacket in a corn field southeast of Good Hope, Illinois. A further search of the field by officers led to the discovery of the remains and wallet belonging to 34 year old Michael Mason of Bushnell. A witness told authorities in July that Mason walked into a cornfield on July 4th while high on Meth. The witness, who was also on Meth and was with Mason when he walked into the field, couldn't remember where the cornfield was. When police went to try and investigate the area based on the witness's description, they couldn't find the cornfield either.

Further testing of the remains will be conducted before a positive ID can be officially declared.
