Roberts-Cole hearing delayed again

Roberts-Cole hearing delayed again

7 years, 7 months ago by Scott Hardy

Third time preliminary hearing has been continued; now set for Sept 20

A hearing for the grandmother of 7 year old Melina Torres on charges linked to the child’s death earlier this year has again been delayed.

A preliminary hearing for Julie Roberts Cole was held Tuesday in Adams County Court on two counts of felony obstruction. At that hearing, which Roberts-Cole did not attend, her lawyer was given a continuance in the case. It's the third one that's been granted, and her hearing is now set for September 20th. Prosecutors say that Roberts-Cole tried to hide a .22 rifle used to accidentally shoot Melina in order to keep a fourth defendant, Shannon Combes, from being arrested. Roberts Cole also allegedly lied to a sheriff's deputy about Daniel Roberts's role in the shooting. Roberts, the man who allegedly gave the rifle to a three year child for target practice at a family gathering in May, is set to go on trial next month on Endangering the Life of a Child and other charges.

Roberts-Cole remains free on bond.
