Charges include Class X count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault

Pike County, Illinois authorities have filed several charges against a Pittsfield man in the Monday night death of a Pittsfield woman.

Court records show that 63-year old David Sampley has been charged with a Class X count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, along with counts of Aggravated Domestic Battery by strangulation and Domestic Battery. Sampley was arrested after authorities found the body of 61-year old Sharon Welch in a home in the 600 block of Clarksville Road around 7 PM Monday night. Pike County Sheriff Paul Petty said early Tuesday morning that both deputies and Pittsfield police were called to the home for a domestic dispute.

Sampley's being held in the Pike County Jail without bond, and may face more charges after the results of an autopsy performed Tuesday in Bloomington are revealed.
