Curt Hanson served in Iowa House since 2009

A State representative from Southeast Iowa has died.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynold's office announced Friday that Curt Hanson of Fairfield has passed away. A Democrat, Hanson had served in the Iowa House representing first the 90th, then the 82nd District since 2009, and was in his 5th term. He was the ranking member on the House Natural Resources Committee, and also served on the House Education and Agriculture committees. Hanson had lived in Fairfield for over 50 years, and was a retired teacher who taught at Fairfield High.

In a statement, Reynolds said, “Rep. Hanson was a champion of education. As a former teacher, he wanted to ensure everyone in Iowa had the same access to quality, affordable education. Representative Hanson’s presence in the Iowa House will be greatly missed. I am keeping his wife, Diane, his children and his grandchildren in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
