Senate AG gets Perdue Vetting Information

7 years, 1 month ago AFBF

Producers may be able to breathe a sigh of relief, now that the White House has sent the Senate Ag Committee the vetting information needed to proceed with the confirmation of President Trump's ag secretary-pick. Senate Ag staff say the Committee was still going over Sonny Perdue’s papers, before setting a date. The panel’s website says hearings are posted as soon as they’re noticed, usually no sooner than seven days prior to a hearing, due to scheduling needs.

American Farm Bureau’s Dale Moore says Perdue’s Senate confirmation can’t come soon enough. "We've got another 13 of the nominations to go through just in the Ag department alone." Moore said, "so the sooner he gets confirmed, the sooner that both he and the Ag committee can start working on that next round."

Perdue has significant business interests that could pose conflicts. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says Perdue needs to take care of those to meet ethics requirements for confirmation.
