Settlement conference set for Monday in Lovelace Federal suit

3 years, 5 months ago by Scott Hardy

Comes three weeks after unsuccessful attempt by Quincy, Adams County to have suit dropped

Lawyers for the the City of Quincy and Adams County will sit down next week with a former County Assistant State's Attorney to attempt to settle a federal lawsuit he filed in 2017.

Records show that a settlement conference will be held on Monday in the suit filed by Curtis Lovelace. The conference comes three weeks after a judge ruled against the City and County in their attempt to have the suit dropped. The city, Police Chief Rob Copley and three other officers, the County, State's Attorney Gary Farha and former Coroner Jim Keller have all been sued by Lovelace, his wife and their three sons. The former Quincy Public Schools Board President claims evidence was withheld from his defense during both his 2016 and 2017 murder trials, and that the QPD tried to frame him. Lovelace filed the suit two months after he was acquitted by a Springfield jury at his re-trial.

He's not specified what damages he's asking for.
