Possible primary race with fellow State Rep Craig Redmon

Missouri State Representative Lindell Shumake of Hannibal has announced his bid for the 18th District State Senate seat.

The Missouri Times reported Friday that Shumake, made the decision to run quote, “after several months of prayerful consideration." The Republican, who represents the 6th District, currently serves on the Veterans and Rules Legislative Oversight Committees, and is the Chairman of the Elections and Elected Officials Committee. The announcement sets up a possible Republican primary fight between Shumake and fellow Representative Craig Redmon (R-Canton), who hasn't officially announced a bid, but has said publicly that he intends to run. Both men hope to replace current State Senator Brian Munzlinger, who's being forced out by term limits.

The 18th Senate District includes all of Northeast Missouri and parts of central Missouri. The primary election will be held in August, 2018.
