Only 25% of state community colleges saw spring increases
John Wood Community College's Board of Trustees learned Wednesday night that the school is one of a few in the state to see increased enrollment this spring.
The Board learned during an update that JWCC’s spring enrollment increased 1.3% over last year. According to an Illinois Community College Board report, JWCC was one of only 12 of 48 Illinois community colleges to see an increase in spring enrollment. Overall, Illinois community colleges had a 2.3% decrease. Over the past five years, JWCC's spring numbers look even better, with just a tenth of a percent decrease in spring enrollment. That compares to a statewide decrease of over 14%. The Board learned that JWCC's Smart Start Concurrent Enrollment program has seen a 5% increase in total credit hours. That program allows area students to earn college credit while still in high school.
The Board also approved JWCC applying for a nearly $34,000 grant to the Illinois Green Economy Network to replace heat pumps and a refrigeration unit for its facilities.
