Street Closures for Bridge the Gap race announced

Race run Saturday morning across both Quincy bridged

Road closures have been announced for Saturday's Bridge the Gap to Health race.

That announcement came Tuesday from race organizers. They include several streets that will be closed from 5 AM to Noon. Those include portions of Front Street, Bonansinga Drive, 2nd Street, Broadway, Vermont and Hampshire, mainly near the riverfront. Runners cross on one lane of the Bayview Bridge into Marion County, and then cross back on one lane of the Memorial Bridge. Maine Street from 4th to 24th Streets will also be closed at 5 AM. The street will re-open at staggered times, based on the location of the runners. Detours around the race course will be set up through the morning. The race is being organized by the Quincy Medical Group Healthcare Foundation and Quincy Catholic Charities, with proceeds going to Quincy Catholic Charities. The list of closures and detour routes is below:

Streets to be closed from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

 Front Street from Jersey to Broadway

 Bonansinga from Cedar to Broadway

 2nd Street from Maine to Spring

 Broadway from 3rd to Bonansinga

 Vermont from 3rd to Front Street

 Hampshire from 3rd to Front Street

Streets to be closed from 5:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

 South lane of the Bayview Bridge

 West lane of North 3rd Street at the Broadway intersection

Streets to be closed from 5:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

 North lane of the Memorial Bridge

 North lanes of Maine from the Memorial Bridge to 4th Street

Streets to be closed from 5:00 a.m. until Rolling Openings times below

 5th Street from Maine to Hampshire Street

 Hampshire Street from 5th Street to 3rd Street

Detours have been established in order to reduce traffic congestion on Highway 24 through downtown. The detours are as follows:

 Northbound Highway 24 traffic coming from Memorial Bridge

o South on 3rd street

o East on State Street

o North on 24th Street/Highway 96

o North onto Highway 24

 Southbound Highway 24 traffic

o West onto Bayview bridge

o Turn around at 2nd highway median crossover

o East onto Memorial bridge

o South onto Highway 24

Organizers say that Bridge the Gap emergency text alerts are also available, by texting bridgethegap to 888777. They add that in case of bad weather Saturday, committee members will work closely with the Adams County Emergency Management Agency to determine the best option for everyone's safety.
