Iowa State Patrol says accident happened Saturday on old US Highway 34

Three southeast Iowa women are dead, after the car they were riding in collided with a train over the weekend.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the fatal crash happened just after 11:30 A.M. Saturday near Danville, Iowa. Troopers say a vehicle driven by Amber Curry, 29, of Burlington, was leaving a private residence near the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway track on Old U.S. Highway 34. The crash report says that the vehicle failed to yield to an eastbound train at a private driveway crossing, and was hit broadside. The car then rolled, and came to rest upright in a ditch. Curry, as well as two passengers in the vehicle, Laura Burch, 27, and Anna Smith, 26, also of Burlington, were killed.

Troopers add no traffic controls were present at the private crossing, and say that the crash remains under investigation.
