NWS says winds up to 74 MPH recorded from line of severe storms

It will be several days before it's determined how strong tornadoes were that touched down Wednesday night in Adams and Lewis Counties, as cleanup continues around the area.

A tornado was confirmed at 8:15 PM, a mile north of Canton, and then shortly before 9 PM, another tornado was confirmed near Quincy Regional Airport. Those sightings prompted the Adams County Emergency Services Agency to sound the city's sirens. A wind gust of 72 miles per hour was recorded at Highway 24 and Interstate 172, and a gust of 74 miles per hour was confirmed in Coatsburg by firefighters. That downed trees and limbs in the area. Our news-gathering partners at KHQA report that high winds also downed trees and power lines in LaBelle, Missouri Wednesday night. Lewis County Emergency Management Director David Keith said Union Electric crews responded to that area, because some high-voltage power lines were down. Keith added that Lewis County had no reports of injuries or structural damage. Many areas also saw hail from the storms, with inch and a quarter hail falling two miles south of Ursa, and 1 inch hail that fell a mile southwest of Golden, and 6 miles south of Madison, in Monroe County.

Lewis County received nickel- to quarter-size hail , and Hancock County also received large hail and severe weather.
