Felony charge dropped in plea deal; sentencing is June 8

The mother of Melina Torres, charged in connection with the child’s death last May, has pleaded Guilty to a lesser charge in a deal with prosecutors.

Karen Torres entered that plea Monday in Adams County court to a misdemeanor count of illegal possession of ammunition. In return, prosecutors dropped a felony count of Obstruction. She had been accused of lying to Adams County Sheriff's deputies in the hours following the fatal shooting of her daughter. She’s the fourth person in the case to plead Guilty in the accidental shooting, which happened during a family gathering in southeast Adams County. Daniel Roberts and Shannon Combes both received prison time for their roles, while Melina's grandmother, Julie Roberts Cole, will be sentenced May 22 after pleading Guilty to a misdemeanor Obstruction charge.

Torres will be sentenced June 8th, and remains free on bond.
