Faces Obstruction charge in connection with May death of daughter Melina

An April trial for the mother of seven-year old Melina Torres on a charge related to the child’s 2016 shooting death remains on track.

Karen Torres was in Adams County court Tuesday for a status hearing on one count of Obstruction. She's accused of lying to Adams County Sheriff's deputies in the hours following the fatal shooting of her daughter last May at a family gathering in southeast Adams County. At a January hearing, both the prosecution and defense asked to delay her trial for two months to April 10th. Melina's grandmother, Julie Roberts Cole, is due to be sentenced in April after pleading Guilty to a similar charge. A family friend, Shannon Combes, is due to go on trial next month on a charge of Possessing a Weapon by a Felon, after a plea deal fell apart. Melina's uncle, Daniel Roberts, is serving a four-year prison sentence after pleading Guilty to Child Endangerment and a Weapon charge last October.

Torres is free on bond.
