QACVB says most spent in Adams County
More people are visiting Western Illinois, and spending more money while they’re here.
That’s according the Quincy Area Convention and Visitors’ Bureau, which said Friday that in 2016, tourists spent just over $157 million in Adams, Pike and Hancock Counties. That’s a 6.7 % increase from 2015. The CVB says the travel dollars meant over $5 million in local tax revenue, and created nearly 1100 new jobs in the three counties. Adams County saw the majority of the spending, getting nearly $102 million in travel spending, and $2.68 million in tax revenue. Quincy Area CVB Executive Director Holly Cain said in a statement that several factors lead to the increased spending, including lower fuel costs.
The Illinois Office of Tourism announced state-wide, tourism brought in nearly $38 billion in 2016, a $571 million increase from 2015.
