Illinois State Police say accident happened Thursday aft East of town

Two Mount Sterling youths were seriously hurt Thursday afternoon, after their vehicle was rear-ended by a semi.

The Illinois State Police say that a 16-year old boy and a 12 year old girl were both taken to Blessing Hospital with serious injuries. Troopers say that the accident happened just after 3 PM Thursday afternoon on US 24, a mile east of Mt. Sterling. An ISP report says that the driver of the semi didn't slow down in time when the juveniles' vehicle slowed down to make a turn. The youth's vehicle was sent into on-coming traffic and was hit by a 3rd vehicle.

The driver of the semi was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
