Rates fell throughout listening area
Unemployment rates fell sharply in April in not only Quincy and Adams County, but throughout the WTAD listening area.
According to figures released Thursday by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, Quincy's unemployment rate in April fell by 6 tenths to 3%. In Adams County, the rate fell by 8 tenths to 2.9%, and in the Quincy-Hannibal job market, it fell by seven tenths, to 3.1%. Rates also fell throughout Western Illinois by five tenths or more, with the biggest decrease of 1.2% in Schuyler County. In Northeast Missouri, it was the same story, as the unemployment rate fell by 7 tenths in April in both Hannibal and Marion County. Clark, Knox and Shelby Counties all saw rates fall by over one per cent. The exception was in Pike County, Missouri, where the rate increased by a tenth.
In Lee County, the rate also fell by 5 tenths, to 3.8%. That's still the second highest rate in Iowa.
