IDES says Adams County rate now at 12 per cent
The latest numbers from the Illinois Department of Employment Security shows that in April, unemployment in Quincy and Adams County rose dramatically due to COVID-19.
Those numbers released Friday show that in Quincy, the rate rose 10.5 per cent to 12.9 per cent. In Adams County, the rate rose 9.5 per cent to 12 per cent. The rate for the Quincy - Hannibal job market rose 6.7 per cent, to 9.7 per cent. All other counties in Western Illinois saw their rates rise in April as well. Brown County saw the lowest rise, of 6.6 per cent, to 8.4 per cent. Hancock County saw the biggest percentage job losses in the area. The April rate rose 10.9 per cent, to 14.8 per cent.
Pike, Schuyler and McDonough Counties all saw increases ranging from 7.7 to 8 per cent. All three counties' unemployment rates are now above 11 per cent.
