Unemployment rates rise in January in Quincy, Adams County

City's rate now at 4%, County's at 3.9%

The latest figures show that unemployment rose in January in both Quincy and Adams County.

That's according to figures released Thursday by the Illinois Department of Employment Security. The unemployment rate in Quincy rose 4 tenths to 4% even. In Adams County, it rose 5 tenths to 3.9% while the combined Quincy-Hannibal job market saw its' rate rise 6 tenths, also at 3.9%. Most counties in Western Illinois saw a similar rise, with Hancock County's rate now at 5.2%. The lowest rate is still in Brown County, at 2.9%. No figures were available for Northeast Missouri.

In Lee County, the unemployment rate rose by 3 tenths to 5.4%. That's one of the highest rates in Iowa.
