One of the candidates for Quincy Mayor in next month's election says the city should use some of its reserve funds right now. Scott Hardy has more.

6th Ward Alderman Jeff VanCamp, who appeared Thursday on WTAD's Mary Griffith Show, says the city should use some of its' $5.7 million in reserves for what he called critical infrastructure needs, instead of storing it away.

Van Camp says it's not necessary to raise property or sales taxes, but to spend the dollars the city has more effectively on what he called real priorities.

VanCamp says police and fire protection remain his top priorities because, according to the 6th Ward Alderman, you can't cut safety to enlarge reserves or avoid taxes.
