QPD says Roger Parker, Jr., 16, of Quincy turned himself in around 1 PM Friday

Quincy police have identified both the victim and the suspect in Thursday's fatal shooting on the city's northwest side.

The QPD Friday identified the victim as 18-year old Darrell Kelley, Jr. of Quincy, and the suspect as 16-year old Roger Parker, Jr. of Quincy. At a news conference, Police Chief Rob Copley had said that an arrest warrant with a $5 million bond was out on Parker. He turned himself in to Adams County authorities around 1 PM Friday, 90 minutes after he was announced as a suspect. Adams County State's Attorney Gary Farha says Parker will be charged as an adult, per Illinois law. Afterwards, Copley said that tips from residents near the scene of the shooting helped them identify Parker as a suspect.

Police say they were called just before 5 PM Thursday to the 600 block of Sycamore on the report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found Kelley lying in the street, with multiple gun-shot wounds. Kelley died later that night at Blessing Hospital. Results of an autopsy being conducted in Bloomington are due in the next day.
