Palmyra man will be sentenced September 15

A Palmyra man has been found Guilty of Elder Abuse after a two-day trial in Monroe County.

Marion County Prosecuting Attorney David Clayton announced the verdict Friday, saying in a statement that Anthony Villeme was convicted on one count of Elder Abuse Thursday. Villeme was found to have hit 74 year old James Church of Palmyra several times in the face last June. Villeme's defense had argued that he acted in self-defense, after Church purportedly lunged at one of Villeme’s children. Clayton is quoted as saying that Villeme had "numerous problematic interactions with many members of the Palmyra community. Some of these instances were brought out at trial."

Clayton says that the jury recommended a 10 year prison sentence for Villeme, who remains in the Marion County Jail. He'll be sentenced September 15th.
