Says district may have cut $1.2 million, use reserve funds to open this August

Quincy School Superintendent Roy Webb and the School Board can no longer hide their frustration with promised payment failures from the state of Illinois.

The Board announced Wednesday night during its' monthly meeting that it has drafted a letter to be sent to lawmakers and leadership, reminding them the state of Illinois Constitution requires the state to be the primary funding source for education. Current state funding does not meet that constitutional threshold. QPS says they did get a $1 million payment from the state this week, which was due in August, 2016.

Webb says the district shouldn't count on the $3.5 million promised for the rest of this year. He is proposing cuts of $1.2 million and the use of reserve funds to in order to open schools this August.
