If Tuesday strike happens, all buildings closed

The Quincy Public School Board has authorized Superintendent Roy Webb to prepare the School District for a strike by teachers next week.

The Board met briefly Friday afternoon, and passed a resolution that authorizes Webb to quote, "take all necessary action" to prepare for and manage the work stoppage. Webb was also formally authorized to close all school buildings once the strike by the Quincy Federation of Teachers starts, which, after the meeting, he said will happen. Webb will also be contacting non-QFT employees about the next steps. Quincy Public School Board President Sayeed Ali released a statement about the strike, saying he's disappointed, and that quote, "The issue is purely financial." Ali went on to say quote, "The reason our financial rating was downgraded is, in part, due to state recommendations that we have a 6 month reserve of operating expenses; yet based on our audited numbers we have only 31 days.” Ali's full statement is below.

Two students also attended the meeting and presented a petition with over 220 student signatures in support of teachers.
