Pike County Sheriff David Greenwood says no device found in nearby home
Pike County, Illinois's Sheriff has provided more details about a threat that forced the evacuation of a Barry high school Friday morning.
Pike County Sheriff David Greenwood says his office, along with the Illinois State Police, Barry firefighters and EMS were all called to a home in the 400 block of Tremont in Barry around 8:15 AM. According to a statement from Greenwood, those agencies had been told about a report of quote, "an explosive device being in the house." Greenwood says that near-by Western High School was evacuated, along with residents in the immediate area. The students were all taken to the Junior High building in Kinderhook. Greenwood says that after an investigation by the Illinois Secretary of State's Bomb Detection Team, the house was cleared, and there was no threat of a bomb. He adds that during the incident, one person was taken to the Pike County Sheriff’s Department for questioning.
The investigation is ongoing.
