Accused of murdering his mother last month

A Keokuk man, alleged to have murdered his mother last month, has plead Not Guilty.

An attorney for 23 year old Devan Williams entered that plea and a written arraignment Monday at a hearing in Lee County court. Williams is facing one count of 1st Degree Murder, and is charged in the death of 54 year old Lori Lynn Williams. Her body was found lying on a bed in a home in the 200 block of Concert Street. Keokuk authorities say that Devan Williams admitted to them that he had choked and suffocated his mother, after he said she kicked him in the chest. Williams is in the Lee County Jail on $1 million bond, and will go on trial starting July 11th.

If convicted, he would get a mandatory life sentence without parole.
