Jack Freiburg wins QND's Everybody Wins Mega Raffle

So, you buy a raffle ticket to support one of the local schools.  We’ve all done that right?

But in Jack Freiburg’s case the charitable gesture came full circle last weekend.

“I got a phone call Saturday night, which I thought to be somewhat ironic,” Freiburg explained. “I was sitting there as the treasurer of the QHS 70's Super Bash and I get a call from Kurt Stuckman of QND telling me I’ve just won a 100 grand.  I saw a little irony in that.”

When Freiburg got the call he thought Stuckman might be in distress.

“I said hey Kurt. What are you calling me for?  Are you OK?,” Freiburg laughed. “Kurt said, I’m OK, but I’m not nearly as OK as you’re OK.  You just won a 100 grand!!”

The Everybody Wins Mega Raffle hosted by Quincy Notre Dame has done a wonderful job of raising funds for the school and made a lot of people winners in the process.  But, as you can imagine, it’s QND that comes out on top with the funds generated and a real feel good event.

“I’ve bought tickets every year they had this,” Freiburg continued. “And I’ve really been lucky (no kidding!!).  Two of those years I’ve won my hundred dollars back and then winning the grand prize this year.”

With the good fortune of the newfound fortune comes lots of “new friends” and renewed acquaintances.

“I need to stay out of bars for the next week because every time I walk into one now everybody yells “Jack’s buying!!”, he laughed.  “I have collected more new best friends in the past few days than I ever have in my life!  But the other thing that’s been neat is I’ve had people tell me that they think it’s great that it’s somebody they know that’s won.   I’m fairly visible in the community, so maybe that’s a good thing for both parties.”

The photo opp for 2017 Everybody Wins Mega Raffle happens Thursday of this week.  Jack will be the one with the biggest smile…and the biggest check!!

Not bad for a boy from the Quincy High class of 1971.
