Authorities looking for Kavion Poplous, 18, in Tuesday night shooting in Thompson Hall

A Western Illinois University student is out of surgery and is hospitalized, after being shot Tuesday night on campus.

WIU says that they've not heard the condition of the unidentified student, who was operated on Wednesday morning. The University says that the shooting happened shortly after 10:30 in Thompson Hall. A WIU security official says the victim was shot by his room-mate in a dispute, and that the suspect, 18-year old Kavion Poplous, fled the scene. Authorities are looking for Poplous, who's considered armed and dangerous. A warrant has been issued in McDonough County Circuit Court for his arrest on counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. Anyone with any information about Poplous is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately. Students were evacuated from Thompson Hall shortly after the shooting, and have since been re-located to Western Hall.

WIU decided early Wednesday morning to cancel all classes for the day. That includes online and in-person classes at both the Macomb and Moline campuses, as well as extension classes. Counseling and support services are available to students, faculty and staff. Macomb Public Schools also canceled all classes for the day, because Poplous is still on the loose.
