You don't look a day over 90!!

You don't look a day over 90!!

WTAD celebrates 92 years of broadcast excellence.

There’s much to be said for longevity.  Sustainable is the buzz word of the day and AM 930 WTAD has been just that.

Taking the airwaves on this date (July 25, 1925) WTAD has long served the general public is so many ways.  News, weather, farm markets, sports, live music, you name it; WTAD has over the years provided all that and more.

Two years ago WTAD celebrated birthday number 90 with a gathering of past staff members and guests at The State Room.  It was an evening comprised of hugs and hand shakes and a lot of “remember whens?.”

Radio is a business all its own. The people are unique as is the medium they love.  If you’re a listener of WTAD you recognize the names of Mary Griffith, Steve Boll, Jim Dewey, Quaid, Bryan Nichols, Sean Secrease, Jim Obert, Bruce Terstegge, John Holm, Pam Fretwell and others.  Go deeper into the memory bank and up come the names of Jeff Dorsey, Jeff Myers, Mike Lawrence, Jeff Wellman, Bob Gough, Ron Kinscherf, Vicki Eilers, Reggie Coleman and more.

Go deeper still and you’ll recognize the names of  Gene Terry, Gene Hoenes, Chuck Kupler and the legendary Walter Rothchild.

And, of course, Hal Barton

WTAD has been blessed with some great sports announcers including Mel and El Tappe, Dorsey, Myers, Lawrence, Bill Schelen, some guy named Mike Moyers, Tim Kinscherf and numerous color announcers.

But it was former WTAD standout Bill King who recently entered the Baseball Hall of Fame, earning the Ford C. Frick award.  He was one of ours.

All, or some, of these people have been part of your life’s soundtrack if you were lucky enough to have your radio tuned to AM 930 at some time over the years.

We hope you have, we hope you did and we hope you’ll continue to lend us your ears.  Those of us at WTAD, who celebrate year number 92, celebrate you, our listener, our client, our friend.

Thank you for nine plus decades.  It’s been fun.

As my friend Bill Schelen used to sign off with, "Since you were, thanks for listening."
