Blessing Health System announces job layoffs

Blessing Health System announces job layoffs

1 year, 6 months ago by Scott Hardy

Total of 150 jobs lost due to down-sizing

Quincy's largest employer says it's laying off over 60 employees, and won't fill nearly 90 empty positions.

Blessing Health System said late Tuesday afternoon that it's down-sizing its organization, due to rising business costs caused by inflation. They also blame challenges that they say are specific to the healthcare industry that are reducing reimbursement, as well as changing patient demand for care. In all, about 150 jobs are affected. Blessing says that about 88 jobs that are already vacant won't be filled. The other 60 or so employees affected by the move were either given a severance package, offered a new position, or had their full-time position reduced. In a statement, Blessing Health System President and Chief Executive Officer Maureen Kahn described the news about the layoffs as "a difficult day for them, and for Blessing".

She also said that Blessing is looking into options to offer new services, or current services in new ways that "meet changing patient demand for care and improve access and lower cost.”
