Brandon Devers sentenced to 10 years

A Canton man, charged in connection with the late August 2021 death of a 14-year old Canton girl, says that authorities had enough evidence to convict him, and is going to prison.

Brandon Devers was in Lewis County Circuit Court last Thursday, where he entered an Alford plea to one count of child endangerment. An Alford plea means that Devers doesn't admit his guilt, but does admit that prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him. It's treated by the courts as a Guilty plea. That plea was part of a settlement with prosecutors. In return, they dropped two counts each of 2nd Degree Murder and meth possession. After the plea, Devers was then sentenced to 10 years in prison. Devers was arrested a day after the death of 14-year old Carolyn Gaus, who died at her home August 28th, 2021.

Prosecutors say that Devers contributed to the girl's death by not stopping her from taking drugs that she found in his room.
