11 residents and staff test positive in last few days
There's been an increase in cases of COVID-19 among both residents and staff at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy.
The Illinois Department of Veteran's Affairs said Tuesday that 4 residents and 7 employees have tested positive for the virus in the last three days. Over the last two weeks, 10 residents and 20 employees have tested positive for COVID. Administrator Charles Newton said in a letter to residents and their families that the Vets Home is following recommendations from local health officials, the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs, and the Illinois Department of Public Health to safeguard everyone at the home. He says that visitors are still welcome, but that they need to be aware of the risks of visiting during an outbreak. 39 Vets' Home residents died of COVID-19 during the pandemic.
IDVA also says that besides Quincy, the Veterans’ Homes at LaSalle and Manteno are also seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases among its veterans and staff. Statewide, 36 people have tested positive for the virus. The Department says that the overwhelming majority of cases have presented mild symptoms.
