Andrew DeHaven convicted in 2020 killing of his father

A Pontoosuc man, accused of beating his father to death with a hammer in 2020, has been found Guilty of murder.

That verdict against Andrew DeHaven was handed down Thursday in Hancock County Circuit Court. A jury found DeHaven Guilty on one count of 1st Degree Murder in the death of his father Michael DeHaven. Charging documents say that on February 9th, 2020, the younger DeHaven hit his father in the head with a hammer numerous times, at a home in the 600 block of 4th Street in Pontoosuc. He's then alleged to have told a neighbor to call the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, saying he just killed his father. DeHaven also allegedly told authorities he committed the murder after his arrest.

He's in the Hancock County Jail, and will be sentenced August 2nd. He could get from 20 to 60 years in prison.
