Pittsfield Manor fined in part for mishandling gastroenteritis outbreak last fall
Several West-Central Illinois nursing homes and senior living centers have been fined by the Illinois Department of Public Health, including a $50,000 fine issued to a Pittsfield facility.
The IDPH recently announced the fines for the first quarter of this year, including a $50,000 fine to Pittsfield Manor. The IDPH says that part of the fine is due to the lack of measures taken by Pittsfield Manor staff during an outbreak of Gastroenteritis that affected 23 of the home's 58 residents in the fall of 2023. That outbreak also affected 23 staff members at Pittsfield Manor. The IDPH also says that five residents were allowed to fall during transfers, including one resident who fell, which caused a broken hip which needed surgery. That resident was reported to have fallen 13 times between June and December 2023. Other local facilities being fined include the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy, which was fined $1,500 for failing to prevent a resident from being abused, and for a resident being restrained by drugs, also known as a chemical restraint. In addition, Barry Healthcare and Senior Living was fined $2,200 for neglecting a patient.
