Marcus Mays sentenced to life plus 240 years

A LaGrange man, convicted of killing a child he was watching in August 2018, will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Marcus Mays was in Scotland County Circuit Court Wednesday, where he was sentenced to life in prison without parole, as well as a total of 240 years in prison. A request from Mays's attorney for an acquittal or a new trial was denied. Mays was convicted in late August, after a jury deliberated for 90 minutes, following a four-day trial. Mays was found Guilty on counts of 1st degree murder, child endangerment and seven counts of child abuse. The case was held in Scotland County on a change of venue from Lewis County. Mays was charged based on an incident in mid-August 2018 at his trailer where he was watching 2-year-old Taylen Allen. Mays was arrested after the child was taken to Blessing Hospital with severe injuries.

The girl died five days later at Children's Hospital in St. Louis, after being hit in the head numerous times.
