Marcus Mays convicted after four-day trial in Scotland County.

A LaGrange man, charged with murder in the August 2018 death of a child he was watching, has been convicted on all counts.

That verdict against Marcus Mays was handed down Friday by a jury in Scotland County Circuit Court, after a four-day trial. The jury deliberated for just over 90 minutes before returning their Guilty verdict late Friday afternoon. The case was held in Scotland County on a change of venue from Lewis County. Mays was found Guilty on counts of 1st degree murder, child endangerment and seven counts of child abuse. He was charged based on an incident in mid-August 2018 at his trailer where he was watching 2-year-old Taylen Allen. Mays was arrested after the child was taken to Blessing Hospital with severe injuries. She died five days later at Children's Hospital in St. Louis, after being hit in the head numerous times.

Mays is in the Lewis County Jail, and will be sentenced October 26th. His defense is likely to file an appeal.
