QPD says no one was hurt in incident on South 7th Street
Quincy police say that a man wanted on a warrant kept his family at knife-point for over three hours Tuesday night before surrendering.
Quincy Police Chief Adam Yates said Wednesday that the incident started around 8:45 P.M. at a home in the 900 block of South 7th Street. That's when the QPD were called about the incident. When the first patrol officer got there, they saw the suspect sitting outside. Once he saw the officer approach, the man showed a large knife then went inside. The officer tried to go in the house, but wasn't able to. That's when polce set up a perimeter, and talked to the suspect, while seeing that his parents were inside. Chief Yates says that a family member was allowed outside around 12:15 A.M. Wednesday. Officers kept talking to the man, and were eventually able to get inside and arrest him without incident. No one was hurt in the three and a half hour incident. The suspect, only identified as a 40-year-old white male wanted for Failing to Appear on charges of Battery and Resisting Arrest, isn't being identified right now because he's undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at Blessing Hospital. Chief Yates says it's thought the man lived at the home on South 7th.
Family members told police that the man hadn't been taking his medication and that family members were safe during the incident.
