Murder suspect won't be tried by Adams County State's Attorney's office

Travis Wiley's case to be handled by State Appellate Prosecutor's Office

A Quincy man, charged with 1st Degree Murder in the January 2018 death of a baby, won't be prosecuted by the Adams County State's Attorney's Office.

Travis Wiley was in Adams County Circuit Court Wednesday, where Judge Michael Atterberry ruled that the State's Attorney's Office is disqualified from prosecuting Wiley. His former lawyer recently started working for the State's Attorney's office. Wiley will now be prosecuted by the Illinois Appellate Prosecutor's Office out of Springfield. Wiley's pleaded Not Guilty to three counts of 1st Degree Murder and one count of Aggravated Battery to a Child. He was indicted on the charges in mid-July 2018 by an Adams County Grand Jury after a six-month investigation. Wiley's accused of shaking the unidentified baby in January 2018. The baby died two days later at a St. Louis hospital.

Wiley's in the Adams County Jail on $5 million bond, and will be in court again July 25th.
