Purchase tax stays at 1.5%, hotel tax at 8%

The Quincy City Council has approved resolutions keeping the City's purchase tax and hotel tax rates the same.

The City Council Monday night approved two resolutions - one to keep the current Home Rule Purchase Tax rate at one and a half per cent, and the other to keep the Hotel Tax rate at 8 per cent. The Council also approved two recommendations from the Plan Commission. One was to approve a special permit for Alibi Bar at 5th and York to operate as a night club. The bar has claimed the city's sixth and final night club license under current law. The Council also approved a recommendation to sub-divide a property at 3237 to 3424 Quincy Mall into two lots. Quincy Town Center owners Cullinan Properties want to sell one of the lots, and the city will get more information about any future plans once that property is sold.

An ordinance will be drafted, and a first reading will be heard at next week's meeting.
