Breeden Wike sentenced to 3 years in prison; gets credit for 1 year served in Adams County Jail

A Quincy man, who had pleaded Not Guilty to charges stemming from a two-vehicle crash last Memorial Day that killed a woman, has changed his Not Guilty plea.

Breeden Wike was in Adams County Circuit Court Monday, where he pleaded Guilty to one count of Aggravated Reckless Driving. The plea was part of a settlement with prosecutors. In return, they dropped one count of Reckless Homicide. After the plea, Wike was sentenced to three years in prison. He'll get credit for serving one year in the Adams County Jail, and will have to pay over $42,000 in restitution. Wike accepted the settlement in late April. He admitted running a red light last Memorial Day while driving on Locust Street, and running directly into a second vehicle at 12th and Locust.

Kayla Beaston-Smith, who was driving that second vehicle, died in the wreck.
