Raphael Wires sentenced in November burning of a 3-year old child

A Quincy man, who admitted trying to burn a 3-year old child last fall, is going to prison.

Raphael Wires was in Adams County Circuit Court Wednesday, where he was sentenced to 7 and a half years in prison. He pleaded Guilty in March to one count of Attempted Aggravated Battery to a Child. As part of a settlement, prosecutors dropped a more serious Class X count of Aggravated Battery to a Child. Quincy police say they were told November 28th by St. John’s Hospital in Springfield about the child. They said that the child had been burned the day before at a Quincy home. The child was first taken to Blessing Hospital that night, then flown to St. John’s due to the severity of the burns. The QPD says their detectives and Department of Children and Family Services investigators met with ICU staff.

After an investigation, police arrested Wires several days later outside his home in the 500 block of Chestnut on the city's northwest side.
