Ameren Illinois drops rate below rate residents paying under plan

The company that manages the City of Quincy's electric aggregation program says that, starting June 1, residents should opt out of the program.

Reg Ankrom, the President of SIMEC Energy, told the Quincy City Council Tuesday night that Ameren Illinois lowered their electric rate for residential customers earlier in the day. Ankrom said that Ameren dropped their rate from 12.3 cents per kilowatt hour to 8 cents per kilowatt hour. Back in February, the City accepted a low bid from Constellation Energy of 12 cents per kilowatt hour. Ankrom says that, starting Thursday, residents can opt out of the city's aggregation program and switch back to Ameren to get the lower rate. He says that residents can call Constellation at 1 (800) 990-2004 to switch, but he warned that wait times could be lengthy. He says that residents can also switch online, at City of Quincy | Constellation. The lower rate should stay in effect through next May.

Ankrom also says that Quincy utility customers will get more information from the city about switching when they receive their next utility bill.
