Settlement reached in Lovelace civil suit

1 year, 9 months ago by Scott Hardy

Terms not disclosed

A settlement has been reached in the Federal lawsuit filed by Curtis Lovelace and his family against the City of Quincy, former Police Chief Rob Copley, several current and former officers, Adams County, State's Attorney Gary Farha and former Adams County Coroner Jim Keller.

That settlement was reached at a hearing Thursday in U.S. District Court in Springfield. There's no word on terms of the settlement. Jury selection was due to start September 6th, and a trial was expected to last two to three weeks. The city, Copley and three other officers, the County, Farha and Keller were all sued by Lovelace, his wife and their three sons. The former Quincy Public Schools Board President claimed evidence was withheld from his defense during both his 2016 and 2017 murder trials, and that the QPD tried to frame him.

Lovelace filed the suit two months after he was acquitted by a Sangamon County jury at his re-trial in Springfield.
