Ian Havermale tried to break out Sunday night

A St. Louis man, being held in the Adams County Jail on an assault charge, faces new charges after trying to escape over the weekend.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that Ian Havermale attempted the escape Sunday night. Sheriff Tony Grootens says in a statement that he was unsuccessful, and that Havermale now faces new charges of escape from a penal institution, and damage to state property. Havermale was in jail on one count of Aggravated Battery in a Public Place, from a January 5th incident. He was in court Monday on all charges, and will be back in Adams County Circuit Court on the new charges this upcoming Monday.

Havermale remains in the Adams County Jail on a total of $170,000 bond.
