Blames increase in digital banking, online payments

A Quincy-based bank has announced it will close one of its' branch locations by the end of the year.

State Street Bank announced Monday in a letter to account-holders that it will close its' branch within the County Market at 24th and Spring in Quincy. That location will close on December 17th. In the letter, State Street Bank President Mike Mahair said that the COVID-19 pandemic sped up the move from traditional, in-branch banking to digital banking and online payments. Mahair said that the Bank's Board of Directors was "sad to take this step", but said that they see it as an opportunity to become more efficient, especially with staffing.

State Street Bank's other locations, including at 8th and State and 48th and Broadway in Quincy, will all remain open.
