Both suffered minor injuries.

Two Quincy Fire Department firefighters were hurt battling a blaze Monday afternoon at an apartment building on Quincy's northwest side.

The Quincy Fire Department says they were called to the converted house just after 12:30 P.M. Monday in the 500 block of North 8th Street. The QFD says that when crews got to the scene, they saw heavy smoke coming from a second-floor window. Those crews were told that someone was trapped on the second floor, but a search found no one inside. All available firefighters were called to the scene to fight the blaze, which took about 20 minutes before it was mostly put out. While fighting the fire, two firefighters suffered minor injuries and both were taken to Blessing Hospital to be checked out. Crews left the scene three hours after they were first called.

Assistant Fire Chief James Pioch says that about one-quarter of the second and third floors were damaged by the fire. The first floor did have moderate smoke and water damage. The QFD says that the cause of the fire is currently undetermined.
