2019 trial date set in Lovelace Federal suit

2019 trial date set in Lovelace Federal suit

6 years, 8 months ago by Scott Hardy

A tentative 2019 trial date has been set in the Federal civil suit filed by Curtis Lovelace and his family against the City of Quincy, several Quincy Police officers, Adams County and two County officials.

Court records show that after a telephone meeting last Thursday, a tentative trial date of October 15, 2019 was set for the case. A pre-trial hearing will be held two weeks before then, on September 30, 2019. The former prosecutor, his wife Christine and their three sons must tell the court what experts they plan to hire by next September. The city, QPD Detective Adam Gibson, Chief Rob Copley and three other officers, along with the County, State's Attorney Gary Farha and Coroner Jim Keller, must submit their experts by January 2019. Lovelace is claiming that evidence used in the two murder trials was fabricated and withheld from his defense. He also claims that Gibson and the QPD tried to frame him. The defendants have denied the charges.

Lovelace and his family filed the suit two months after being acquitted by a Sangamon County jury in March of one count of 1st degree murder in the 2006 death of his first wife Cory. The suit has not specified damages.
